Canada vs Austria
Canada – Austria 9 - 1 (5-1,2-0,2-0)
Canada vs Austria; anything else then a clear victory for the Canadians would be a big surprise. Nevertheless several hundred spectators in the sits were hopping for an Austrian miracle.
And after 34 seconds it looked like the miracle might come true. Patrick Edlinger scored for Austria. But the Austrian hopes melted away quickly. Within six minutes the Canadians scored four goals by Ryan Giesler, Paul Matt, Any Liboiron and Matt again. Canada then slowed down and basically concentrated on the control of the game. Austria worked hard for another goal, but it was Canada that steadily raised the score. The two Austrian goalkeepers Lorenz Hirn and Lukas Wurzer plaid outstanding and allowed only five more goals for the final 9 to 1 victory for team Canada.
The best scorers for the Maple Leafs were Liboiron with 3 goals, Trent Dorais and Matt with 2 goals each followed by Giesler with 1 goal and 1 assist as well as Denver Greer and Garret Wilson with 2 assists each.
With this victory Canada stays on the road to the final. A win tomorrow at12.30 pm and the North Americans will be almost there. Austria's further faith will be decided in tomorrow's games against USA (at 10.30 am) and Slovakia at 8.30 pm.
President's note
George Gortsos
ISBHF president
This past weekend I had the honour of becoming the third President of the ISBHF.
I believe that as a player and coach I have always strived to play ball hockey in a skilled and team way. Now I have a chance to work with all the great leaders of our sport throughout the World who love the game like we all do. I met some great people in Paris. And I would like to thank the representatives of all our member nations who voted me in on behalf of ball hockey players around the World.
This is an honour I will handle with the honesty and hard work that made me a successful player and coach. I want to share the main keys that I will strive to work with my fellow board members to make this game better around the World.
