Czech Republic vs Germany

Czech Republic – Germany 9 - 0 (3-0,4-0,2-0)
The Czech Republic needed to win this game to uphold its chances for the final.  Even if team Germany still had theoretical chances to make the final too, their main goal was to make the Czech Republic life as hard as possible.
Germany decided to play out of a strong defence, waiting for breakaway possibilities. In the beginning the Czechs had some problems with the good positioned German defenders. In the eleventh minute Jakub Merta finally found a hole in the German bastion and brought the Czech Republic 1:0 up, on passes from Ondřej Palička and Jan Bilý. Now the dam broke, and Germany had to allow another two goals by Ondřej Lux in the closing minutes of the first period.
The team from the Czech Republic controlled the game in the central and in the closing period steadily enlarging its lead while Germany – in front of excellent goalkeeper Maximilian Dürr – rested dangerous on breakaways. In the end the Czech Republic won the game 9 to 0.
Best scorers for the Czech Republic were: Merta with 3 goals, Luděk Hradecký with 2 goals and 1 assist, Bilý and Michal Bezděk with 3 assists each, followed by Lux with 2 goals and Jaroslav Liška as well as Tomáš Hák with 1 goal and 1 assist each.
With this win, the Czech Republic stays in the race for the final. While team Germany with the games against Canada and Slovakia yet to play, will most likely matchup on Saturday for the fifth place.

George Gortsos

George Gortsos
ISBHF president

This past weekend I had the honour of becoming the third President of the ISBHF. I believe that as a player and coach I have always strived to play ball hockey in a skilled and team way. Now I have a chance to work with all the great leaders of our sport throughout the World who love the game like we all do. I met some great people in Paris. And I would like to thank the representatives of all our member nations who voted me in on behalf of ball hockey players around the World. This is an honour I will handle with the honesty and hard work that made me a successful player and coach. I want to share the main keys that I will strive to work with my fellow board members to make this game better around the World.
