Czech Republic vs Slovakia
Czech Republic – Slovakia 2 - 2 (1-1,1-0,0-1)
For the Czech Republic, this was a very important game. To stay in the race for the final, the team desperately needed a win. With a loss, the dream to reach the final might end already on the second day of the tournament. The situation for Slovakia was much more comfortable, a victory and the gates for the final would be widely open.
Both teams started heavily motivated into this game. It was Jaroslav Martinusik who scored for team Slovakia in the seventh minute on passes from Martn obuch and Matej Kontura. The Czech Republic continued to play its game and was able to equalize only three minutes later. Jakub Merta did the scoring, while Ondřej Palička and Jan Bilý provided the assists.
In the second period the Czechs worked hard to get the lead, but the players from Slovakia were tactically well prepared and controlled the game out of their defence, waiting for break away opportunities. In an excellent game it was finally the team from the Czech Republic that could profit from a power play. Bilý gave the Czech team the first lead in this tournament in the 28th minute assisted by Palička and Martin Voleský.
With only ten seconds in the closing period Martinusik surprised the Czechs and tied the game on a pass from Martin Obuch. In the following minutes the game became more and more physic and a couple of player found themselves in the penalty box. But neither team could make profit of this situation. Then again the Slovaks concentrated on the defence while the Czech Republic pressed for the lead. With two minutes left on the clock, a player from team Slovakia got a minor penalty. Now the Czech Republic had the possibility to take the lead. The Czech Republic furiously attacked while the Slovak players threw themselves fearlessly into the shots and allowed no further scoring.
With this point the Czech Republic has still a possibility to reach the final, depending on the outcome of tomorrow's game between Slovakia and Canada.
