Slovakia vs Germany

Slovakia– Germany 11 - 1 (5-0,2-0,4-1)

Slovakia having the same number of points as the Czech Republic, against which the Slovaks tied, but a by five goals worse goal differential had to win this game as high as possible, best with the ten goals maximum difference. For Germany this game was a last test for tomorrow's showdown against Austria.

Slovakia moved the game immediately into the German defence zone. After 41 seconds Marek Polerecky gave the Slovak Republic an early lead on a pass from Adam Lapansky. The Slovaks were cleanly in control of the game. It seemed only a question of time until there would be further scoring. In the seventh minute Polerecky hit again, this time assisted by Martin Obuch. Only two minutes later Tomas Vidlar scored the third goal for Slovakia, assisted by Tomas Pastorek and Robert Maier. Matus Plocko provided two further goals for the Slovaks before the end of the first period.

In the second period Slovakia upheld the pressure on the German net. In the fourth minute Michal Sismic scored another goal for Slovakia. Even if Slovakia was still in control of the game, up and then Germany was able to bring the play into the Slovak zone and to create some danger in front of Jiri Sajar in the Slovak net. The longer the period went on, the better Germany came into the game and even had several good scoring chances. But it was Slovakia that scored another goal. Maros Goga hit the net for its colors with two seconds left in the period.

In the third period Slovakia worked hard for the ten goal spread. Palocko and Sismic provided goals eight and nine for the Slovak Republic early in the period, but Germany was not ready to hand in; on a breakaway Benedikt Brückner opened the score for Germany on a pass from Robin Platz and Christian Masel. Slovakia insisted and in power play Martin Kollar scored the tenth goal for Slovakia. With 87 seconds on the clock, Marek bendar gave Slovakia the desired ten goal spread.

Due to ISBHF ten goals maximum difference rule this result will be put into the standings as 10 to 0.

Slovakia has now a goal difference of 24 to 11. The Czech Republic that plays the next game has a goal difference of 19 to 11. This means whenever the Czech Republic wins with four or less goals difference against Austria, Slovakia will be in the final. If the Czech Republic would beat Austria 5 to 0, then a penalty shootout between Czechs and Slovaks would take place. All other Czech win with five or more goals difference will put the Czech Republic into the finals.
