Presidents note 2
Phuket, Thailand, March 17/10 - The ISBHF held its first ever Asian Summit for street/ball hockey, and with five organizations in attendance it was declared a great success.
There is a strong desire among the ex-patriots of hockey nations to build the sport in Asia, and in some nations the locals are already embracing our great game. Plans were discussed on implementing introductory programs for indigenous population of each member nation, with the focus primarily on youth development.
Tournaments were a major topic of discussions and it was agreed that a standard calendar should be put in place to avoid conflicts in dates between the four major annual events, Mekong (Thailand March), Asia (South Korea April), Canton (Hong Kong May), and Yamato (Japan October). The information and results for these events will be posted on a dedicated webpage of isbhf.com in the very near future.
Continental Championships every two years was a goal of the ISBHF, and the Summit participants were fully in support. The CC would be in full 5-on-5 format using ISBHF International Rules. Hopes are to have the first one by 2012.
More will follow on our new website. As you can tell we still have some glitches to work out, but it is going to be a great tool once it is all done, including webpages for every member nation.
President's note
George Gortsos
ISBHF president
This past weekend I had the honour of becoming the third President of the ISBHF.
I believe that as a player and coach I have always strived to play ball hockey in a skilled and team way. Now I have a chance to work with all the great leaders of our sport throughout the World who love the game like we all do. I met some great people in Paris. And I would like to thank the representatives of all our member nations who voted me in on behalf of ball hockey players around the World.
This is an honour I will handle with the honesty and hard work that made me a successful player and coach. I want to share the main keys that I will strive to work with my fellow board members to make this game better around the World.
